Pottery Supervision

Supervision is a critical piece of becoming an Art Therapist and a Counselor. Providing supervision is a sacred privilege, imparting knowledge and sharing wisdom with new practitioners.

This supervision modality is unique, offering clay-based experientials and instruction.

Individual Supervision

One-on-one pottery-based ATR-P®/LPC supervision.

Schedule and Session Structure

Generally individual sessions will be about 2 hours long. Sessions will include check-ins, demos, art therapy/counseling content, experientials, process, and clean-up.

Majority of sessions will focus on techniques and interventions using a midfire stoneware pottery clay. We can also use modeling clay and other types of clay that can be used with clients without a kiln.

Multiple week sessions

Due to the nature of pottery, sessions are designed to accommodate the full amount of time and effort needed to create complete artworks from a ball of wet clay to fully glazed piece. Two hours is needed from start to finish each night, and multiple weeks to see pieces through from creation to bisque fire to glaze and final glaze firing. Individual supervisees can set the pace on their own creations and can be tailored to the amount of supervision hours needed.

Supervision hours

As an LPAT/ATR℠ I am able to provide between 50 and 75 hours for

ATR-P® supervision towards your ATR℠, depending on your site.

As an LPCC-S I can provide all required LPC hours towards your independent licensure.

Non-art therapy LPCs are invited to join this clay-based supervision; sessions are fully compliant with the supervision needs of LPCs; supervision includes discussion of counseling discipline tenets including the diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional disorders.

Experience

All experience levels are welcome and encouraged - whether you have never touched clay before or you are an experienced ceramic artist. Instruction will be provided throughout each session.

Supplies

Pottery Supervision at Subterranean includes clay, glaze, access to basic pottery tools, a plastic bin for clean-up, bats for storage, wooden boards for handbuilding.

What to bring, what to wear

Wear clothes and shoes you don't mind getting clay on or wet. Aprons are often used by potters. Bring your personality and energy of your whole person. Clip your finger nails before supervisions, as long nails impede clay work. Connect with me prior if this is a deal breaker, we can figure it out together. Bring hair ties if you have longer hair.

Introverts welcome and supported! As an introvert myself, I understand group situations can be hard - you will be honored in your unique way of introvertedness.

Fees

Individual supervision is $75 per hour with clay, glaze, firing and other supplies included in fee.

Payments can be made weekly during the course of the supervision relationship. A limited amount of income-based scholarships are available. Please send inquiries to erin@clevelandassessment.com.
