About the Studio
Subterranean is located in Cleveland's vibrant Collinwood neighborhood, near the shores of Lake Erie on a Beach Street north of Lakeshore near St. Jerome's. This home studio operates from below ground, in a 100 year old basement converted into a fully operational clay studio complete with kiln, two brent wheels, clay storage, and buckets upon buckets.
Collinwood is home to the Waterloo Arts District, featuring other artists' studios and galleries including Praxis Fiber Workshop and Gallery, Waterloo Arts, Brick and Mortar (pottery studio and gallery), Framed, Article, and more.
As with any city studio, parking is never ideal. Street parking is available on Lakeshore with a short walk down to the studio. Spots in the driveway can be made available for people with mobility issues upon request. The studio is down a flight of stairs. A cat owns the upstairs of the home but will not be visiting the studio with guests unless specifically requested. Studio visits are available by appointment, and address available at time of appointment confirmation.
As a practicing potter, I like to play with surface design experimentation, mixing printmaking with pottery. Subterranean uses a variety of Cone 5/6 stoneware or porcelain pottery clay. Students will begin with a more versatile stoneware that has utility for both handbuilding and throwing. No outside clay or glaze can be brought and used in the studio without prior approval.
